Campaign for Real Beauty

20 03 2009

No wonder our perception of beauty is distorted. Watch this award-winning short video on the myths behind our perceptions of ‘beautiful.’

I am inspired and so thankful for this campaign from Dove. In addition to outer beauty, even one’s sense of inner beauty is compromised when women, and especially young girls, feel the need to live up to the standards set by the world of celebrities and advertising. I know that I was, and am, one of them. As we see here, we have been looking up to a total illusion.

Thanks for your comments! I’m not suprised that 98% of us don’t look like supermodels. I hope we can raise awareness among our young and change the ongoing trend of unreasonable expectations and dangerous role models.

it’s fascinating what can be done with photoshop. do models really have the long legs that they appear to? is their skin really that perfect? i applaud dove for embracing women of all shapes and sizes.

marianne williamson in one of her books wrote that 2% of the population actually is shaped like a supermodel and yet the other 98% are trying to emulate them. she said it’s the supermodel that is the abnormality and not the real woman.
