Come, join the conspiracy…
Together, let’s conspire!
Shallow breath,
Caught by twentieth century air.
The air of twenty centuries, trapped in our lungs.
Tightened chest,
Labouring lungs,
Straining to enlargen.
Narrow constriction gripping us,
The narrow passageways of half-thought thoughts,
Of half-dreamed dreams, of half-loved loves,
Of half-schemed schemes.
Let go the fortress-held stance of shallowly-breathed patterns.
Breathe deeply now.
Echoes of another call…
Come and see!
Now…come and breathe.
Yes! Come join the conspiracy…
Together, let us conspire!
*The Latin root of the word conspiracy means to breathe together.
Sister Margo Ritchie is a woman committed to the struggle to create a better world, who works at Medaille House spirituality centre in London, Ontario. She wrote conspiracy in 1992 during the Ecumenical Decade of Churches in Solidarity with Women in the Church and Society (1988-1998). Thank you to Evelyn for passing this along to return to breath.
